The Champagne house Louis Roederer is located in the famous Champagne district of Reims. The house produces, among others, the world-renowned champagne "Cristal." Its 240 hectares are situated in the Marne region, where all the vineyards are classified as Grand Cru and Premier Cru.

Louis Roederer is also represented in Bordeaux, where in 2007 they acquired the estate Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande (2nd Growth) in the southern part of Pauillac.

Despite being founded in 1776, the current iteration of the house began in 1833 when Louis Roederer assumed control from his uncle and renamed the business after himself. Roederer aimed to capture international markets, particularly that of Russia, where the wine became favored by the Russian royal family.

Cristal, now one of the region's premier prestige cuvées alongside renowned names like Dom Pérignon (Moët), Belle Époque (Perrier-Jouet), Comtes de Champagne (Taittinger), or Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill (Pol Roger), was crafted for the famously paranoid Tsar Alexander II of Russia. He requested the bottle be clear and flat-bottomed to prevent hidden explosives.

In 1845, Louis Roederer acquired several grand cru vineyards in Champagne, a move uncommon for the time, as most houses were sourcing grapes from growers rather than cultivating their own.

Presently, Roederer's vineyards cover approximately 240 hectares (600 acres) in the Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, and the Côte des Blancs.

Cristal is produced in both standard and rosé variations, although the latter is less common. The standard vintage Cristal is crafted from select vineyard plots, comprising roughly 60 percent Pinot Noir and 40 percent Chardonnay. Portions of the blend may undergo some barrel aging.

Cristal rosé follows similar proportions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but the Pinot Noir is left on the skins for an extended period before pressing. Approximately 20 percent of the wine is also aged in large oak barrels, imparting a light rosé hue with subtle onion skin nuances.

Cristal wines are also released under the Vinothèque label, which involves late disgorging, extended lees aging, and further maturation in Louis Roederer's cellars in bottle.

In addition to Cristal, the Louis Roederer portfolio includes non-vintage and vintage brut, rosé, and blanc de blancs champagnes. More recently, there has been a collaboration between the house and French designer Philippe Starck to create a Champagne Brut Nature. The signature style of the house often revolves around Pinot grapes (Noir and Meunier).
