Romain Tribaut Champagne Pur Meunier Brut
France / Champagne / Vallée de la Marne / Meunier
Pur Meunier Brut “La Vallée” – 100% Meunier – Dosage 5 g/l – Verneuil, Olizy, Damery & Romery – 2021 harvest.
Two-thirds of the wine is vinified and matured for 10 months in used barrels. The barrels come from a good friend of Romain and were previously used to vinify wines from some of Burgundy’s most sought-after appellations, including Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet.
The remaining third is vinified in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks before the two components are blended. Malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously in barrel and under controlled conditions in tank, combining the complexity and less predictable character of barrel ageing with the precision and freshness of stainless steel.
This approach is used throughout the entire PUR range, resulting in Champagnes of remarkable complexity and character.
The wine was bottled in 2022 and aged on its lees until disgorgement in February 2025.
The first impression is wonderfully delicate, with an intensely fresh and vibrant nose of lilies, citrus fruit, toasted hazelnuts and freshly baked bread. And is there perhaps a hint of white gummy bear – or is that just me?
