Moët & Chandon

Moët & Chandon is today the most widespread champagne brand in the world, with an annual production of over 38 million bottles. They are distributed among various labels, with Moët & Chandon, Dom Pérignon, and Mercier being perhaps the most well-known.
The house claims to be the first in Champagne, as Claude Moët laid the foundation in 1743. He was the owner of the wine trading house Moët et Cie. In 1789, his grandson Jean-Rémy Moët took over and brought the house onto the international stage.
Madame de Pompadour was the house's first ambassador. She was the mistress of King Louis XV of France and, inspired by her love for Moët & Chandon champagne, is said to have remarked, "Champagne is the only wine in the world that makes every woman beautiful." Their "imperial" trademark Moët Imperial was named in honor of Napoleon Bonaparte – a friend of the house and loyal follower.
The name Chandon was added in 1832 after Jean-Rémy retired. His son Victor Moët and son-in-law Pierre-Gabriel Chandon de Briailles took over. Chandon introduced the concept of vintage champagne and marketed their first vintage in 1842. The bestseller Imperial Brut was introduced in 1860.
Today, the house is owned by the family-run business LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennesy).
Moët & Chandon's vineyards are located on the unique terroir of Épernay in the heart of the Champagne region, characterized by its special geology, topography, and climate. Three grape varieties are used in the production of all Moët & Chandon champagnes: Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay.
