Château du Tertre (5th Growth) is located in the southernmost part of Margaux and is one of the oldest estates in the area. Its history dates all the way back to 1143. The castle sits on a small gravel hill, which the name "du Tertre" (the hill/the top of the hill) refers to.

The estates 52 hectares (128 acres) of vineyards have remained unchanged since its classification in 1855. Crafting both the grand vin and second wines, the estate blends primarily Cabernet Sauvignon with supporting roles played by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. - the 1st wine Château du Tertre 5th Growth and the 2nd wine Les Hauts du Tertre are produced.

In 1997, the estate was sold to Eric and Louise Albada Jelgersma, who also own Château Giscours (3rd Growth). The team behind the elegant wines includes the renowned oenologist Denis Dubourdieu. Jelgersma, before his death in 2018, managed to restore the estate to its former character and grandeur through substantial investments. The harvest is done manually, and sorting is done optically. The wines have never been better. A house to keep an eye on.

In 2021 the Albada Jelgersma family decided to slim down their winery portfolio, selling Bordeaux fifth-growth Château du Tertre to a French institutional investor, Les Grand Chais de France SAS.
