The estate was established in 1952 in Chagny. In 1986, the son, Michel Picard, acquired his first property, the famous Château de Davenay. In 1997, his greatest dream came true when he purchased his fifth property, Château de Chassagne-Montrachet.

One moves around the latter property with awe, not only considering its history but also because, despite high expectations, one is consistently influenced by the very dedicated atmosphere present. Every detail is meticulously attended to, and everyone seems proud and eager to give their best. This is clearly reflected in the wines during tastings.

Our affection has fallen on the wines from the estate's Au Pied du Mont Chauve, run by Francine Picard, who has taken over from her father, Michel. The style is rounded, and the wines are brought into the world with a focus on fruit and an elegant taste. The fruit is often balanced by a shorter aging period in used barrels or other larger tanks. The wines usually have relatively high acidity, which, however, does not dominate the taste but is just so crisp, finely tuned that the world around momentarily shuts down for a brief second.

Au Pied du Mont Chauve in Chassagne-Montrachet

Our admiration is drawn to the wines of Domaines Famille Picard's Au Pied du Mont Chauve, managed by Francine Picard who took over from her father, Michel. Au Pied du Mont Chauve is located on the expansive Domaine du Château de Chassagne-Montrachet owned by the Picard family.

The style is rounded, focusing on fruit-forward and elegantly flavored wines. Fruit flavors are typically balanced through brief aging in used barrels or other larger vessels. The wines generally exhibit a relatively high acidity that harmonizes seamlessly without overpowering the palate, leaving a momentary pause of appreciation.

Château de Davenay in Montagny

Describing Domaines Famille Picard is a lengthy endeavor as they are juggling multiple ventures — or lets say, barrels in the cellar, if you will. Established in 1952 in Chagny, Michel Picard acquired his first property in 1986: the renowned Château de Davenay.

Domaine Voarick in Mercurey

Driving south from Beaune towards the white kingdom of Montrachet, if one fails to brake hard enough in time, the journey continues into Côte Chalonnaise, the northern part of southern Burgundy. Passing by the town of Chagny, the vineyards of Bouzeron and Rully become apparent before the rolling vineyards of Mercurey emerge to the west.

Red wines from Mercurey tend to possess a delightful, generous bouquet and finesse in flavor. They are distinctive, distinguished wines with a full-bodied character that adds richness and texture. Deep ruby red in color, they offer a classic Burgundy Pinot bouquet of strawberries, raspberries, and cherries. With age, notes of forest floor, spicy tobacco, and cocoa develop on the palate, echoing the aromas found on the nose. The young wines borrow minerality from the structured tannins, which mature beautifully, becoming rounded and meaty over time.

White wines from Mercurey exhibit a typical Chardonnay golden color, sometimes tinged with green. They boast a bouquet of white flowers (geranium and acacia), hazelnut, almond, and spices (cinnamon and pepper). The flavor is full-bodied with a mineral touch of flint, making them fullbodied and highly approachable wines reminiscent of white wines from the Côte de Beaune in many respects.

Domaine Levert-Barault in Mercurey

Domaine Levert-Barault is one of the oldest vineyards in Mercurey, Côte Chalonnaise in Burgundy. The 9.5-hectare estate was acquired by the Picard family / Domaines Famille Picard in 1997. Records from the 16th century describe the estate's presence in the heart of Mercurey's old town.

The parcels Les Combins, Les Champs Martin, Clos des Barrault, Clos des Montaigus, La Chassière, and Les Vasée form the identity of Domaine Levert-Barault. For many years, these untouched gems have now produced authentic, exciting, and precise wines.
