Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste (5th Growth) is one of the 12 estates in Pauillac represented in the Bordeaux Classification of 1855. It is certainly one of the 5th Growth estates worth knowing: quintessential Pauillac. "Grand-Puy" translates to "great hill," and the vineyards cascade down this hill, which rises in the beautiful landscape of Pauillac.
The history of the estate is fascinating: With a family saga dating back to the 16th century, the château is one of the oldest properties in Pauillac. Until 1920, it remained in the same family, passed down from generation to generation.
Jean-Eugène Borie took over the property in 1978 and entrusted the gradual renovation to his eldest son, François-Xavier Borie. Today, it is his eldest daughter, Emeline, who is slowly taking over the reins.
There are 55 hectares of vineyards planted, with a distribution of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. The vines yield an annual production of approximately 144,000 bottles. The first wine is Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 5th Growth, and the second wine is Lacoste-Borie.
