DOMAINE RAMONET

It all began in the 1930s when Pierre Ramonet started acquiring land on the Montrachet hill. By the 1950s, he owned plots in several premier and grand cru vineyards, and in the 1970s he acquired a parcel of the legendary Le Montrachet vineyard. Today, Ramonet owns more than 15 hectares (approximately 37 acres) of vineyards, with a range that includes village-level, premier cru, and grand cru wines. Read more

The domaine holds the following grand cru parcels:

  • Bâtard-Montrachet: 0.6 hectares (1.5 acres)

  • Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet: 0.4 hectares (1 acre)

  • Chevalier-Montrachet: only 0.1 hectares (0.2 acres)

  • Le Montrachet: 0.2 hectares (0.5 acres)

The estate’s winemaking philosophy centers on old vines and low yields. Grapes from vines younger than 18 years are not used in the top cuvées. After traditional fermentation, the white wines are aged on the lees for an extended period, with battonage (lees stirring) occurring far less frequently than usual.

Both red and white wines are aged in 33% new oak barrels. The red grape parcels are primarily located in Chassagne, where the domaine holds just over 1.4 hectares across the La Boudriotte, Morgeot, and Clos Saint-Jean premier cru vineyards. An additional 1.8 hectares of Pinot Noir is planted in village-level plots.

Today, Noël and Jean-Claude Ramonet run the estate, having taken over after the death of their father Pierre in the mid-1990s. The domaine continues to produce some of the most highly regarded wines from the Montrachet area.
