Domaine Hubert Lignier

The Domaine Hubert Lignier is located in Morey-Saint-Denis. The vineyard predominantly consists of ancient vines, some of which were planted as far back as 1936. For both the vinification and aging processes, their methods consist of minimal intervention. The quality of the fruit is the essential foundation for crafting our wines.
In the late 1880s, Jacques Lignier acquired vineyards in Côte de Nuits that had been devastated by phylloxera. His son Jules helped replant and passed the legacy on to his three sons: Georges, Maurice, and Henri.

Henri expanded the estate to 4.5 hectares before 1960, maintaining fruit trees and using horses for manual labor. Hubert took over in 1959, expanding the operation and improving wine quality by introducing on-site bottling in 1973.
Romain joined his father in 1992, implementing soil cultivation techniques such as plowing and hoeing while avoiding herbicides and insecticides.
Tragically, Romain passed away in 2004. His brother Laurent therefore returned home and took over the estate and production. Under his leadership, the estate moved to a new wine cellar in 2008 and expanded to 11 hectares by 2020.

Today, Laurent's children, Sébastien and Maëlle, continue the family's passion for winemaking. They maintain a conscientious approach to both the vineyards and the environment, focusing on preserving biodiversity. This commitment is increasingly important as they, like many others, face growing challenges from climate change.
They feel it is their responsibility to honor their surroundings' heritage and evolve with new challenges, even though they do not yet have all the answers.
