2014 Chateau Clos de Sarpe Grand Cru
France / Bordeaux / Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Rouge / Saint-Christophe des Bardes
2014 Château Clos de Sarpe Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé is characterized by a purple, dense, and opaque color. Beautiful fruit freshness, spicy aromas of black fruits and licorice notes. Tannins are silky, powerful and civilized, and give a vinous and creamy wine. Impressive attack, raised by the freshness of the fruit; the mid palate is dense with a lovely persistence. The favorable weather report allowed to collect everything with optimal maturity.
The Wine Cellar Insider/Jeff Leve tasting notes 93/100 (2017): "Earthy in character, with plums, licorice, and spice, this is the first vintage where Clos de Sarpe began micro-vinifying 15% of their wine in 600 liter barrels. Concentrated for the vintage, the microvinification has added additional softness to the wine, as well as rounding the tannins. That does not mean you don't have to give this time, as you do, but the plummy fruit has more softness in the texture".
Blend:
85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc (the blend is always identical).
- Winemaker: Jean-Guy Beyney.
- Consultant: Michel Rolland.
